Shock and grief have gripped a Kiambu family after a woman alleged that her sister gave up her two young children in a bizarre church ritual in Juja, only to later lose her sanity.
Speaking emotionally, Cecilia Gathoni narrated that her sister’s troubles began after she walked out of two marriages, each leaving her with a child. Cecilia took her in, but after a while, the sister moved into her own rented house with the children. One of the kids, she said, suffered from a spinal condition. Instead of taking him to the hospital, the mother allegedly began taking him to a controversial church for prayers.
“When I asked why she wasn’t seeking treatment, she told me their pastor had said people with disabilities will never enter the Kingdom of God, so only prayer could save him,” Cecilia recalled.
Her family noticed troubling changes. She became withdrawn, distanced herself from relatives, and spent long hours in prayer, often disturbing her neighbours. One day, Cecilia went a whole week without seeing her, only to later receive a call from Athi River Hospital saying her sister had collapsed in the street.
When Cecilia went to pick her up, the children were nowhere to be found. Asked where they were, the sister allegedly replied that she didn’t know but now she was a prophetess.
After several medical checks, doctors confirmed she was physically fine but showing signs of mental instability. According to Cecilia, her sister eventually confessed that her pastor knew where the children were because becoming a prophetess required a “big sacrifice.”
The family reported the matter to police, and while the pastor was arrested, he was later released on bond. Their desperate search for the missing children, aged 1 and 5, has yielded no results.
Now, Cecilia is appealing for a genuine man of God to help deliver her sister so she can reveal the truth and bring the children home.
