Nairobi County Governor Johnson Sakaja, in a recent press statement, announced a significant change that will affect the residents of Nairobi.

He declared that it is now mandatory for all Nairobians selling sweets on the city’s streets to pay a daily fee.

This fee will range from KSh20 to KSh50 per day, granting them permission to continue their sweet-selling businesses.

These new charges are set to have a substantial financial impact, as they will translate to an annual cost of KSh 2,500 for those engaged in this trade.

This means that Nairobi residents who make a living selling sweets will need to allocate a significant portion of their earnings to cover these fees.

Governor Sakaja’s decision has stirred up discussions and concerns among both the sweet vendors and the general population.

It is likely to create a financial burden for many small-scale entrepreneurs who rely on these street sales as their source of income.

The Governor’s move may have been motivated by various factors, such as generating revenue for the county or regulating street vending.

However, it will undoubtedly have a direct impact on the livelihoods of those who depend on sweet-selling as a means of sustaining themselves and their families.

The implementation of these new charges will be closely monitored to assess their effects on Nairobi’s local economy and the people’s ability to continue their businesses.

It remains to be seen how Nairobians will adapt to this change and whether it will lead to any legal or public challenges in the future.
